This exercise asks you to compose a very short video, its duration only 30 seconds to 1 minute, that juxtaposes a passage you read aloud from either The Quiet American or “Indo-China: France’s Crown of Thorns” with a series of still images (probably between four and eight, depending on the length of your voiceover).  You may choose to read any passage from the novel or essay.  You can pull from anywhere on the web—Google Images is a good place to start.  It should be your goal to evoke a certain reaction, emotional or otherwise, in pairing the voiceover and images, that would one would not receive, or receive only mutedly, from reading the text alone.  After you compose this video, write about 100 words of commentary: what effect have you tried to produce, and how?
