Never judge a book by its cover, the rule stands, but this exercise asks to consider the rhetorical implications of book covers.  Displayed below are six different covers that have been attached to The Quiet American, in either print or audio format.  Pick at least two of the images below and write approximately 300 words that compare and contrast how these covers “sell” the book.  What audience(s) do they cater to?  What rhetorical appeals do they make?  How do they sell the book’s genre?  Having read part of the novel, bring in your own knowledge: do these covers accurately represent the content of The Quiet American?
